Universities Fire Sprinkler Systems

University estates contain a diverse variety of different premises, from educational buildings, to student halls of residence, to libraries, catering establishments and administrative offices.

Each presents its own fire risk, whether due to the presence of large amounts of paper, sources of ignition (e.g. kitchens, heaters and electrical appliances) or due to the risks posed by human activity inside the building.

Base Fire Sprinklers work with universities across the UK to improve fire safety preparedness, by auditing premises, planning fire sprinkler systems that more than meet the minimum standards, installing and maintaining those sprinkler systems.

For universities, this means peace of mind for educators, a reduction in concerns and complaints from students - especially in residential halls - and less risk of a costly and damaging incident occurring.

I would like to compliment the engineers that we have met on site who have completed the servicing and repair works on the systems....I cannot find one area where I would be unhappy with the service we have received.

Why Choose Sprinklers for Universities?

Fire sprinkler systems are incredibly reliable and do not depend on manual activation, leaving lecturers to focus on teaching their students - and, in the event of a fire, to lead an orderly evacuation.

Concealed sprinkler heads have only very minimal visual impact on interiors, ensuring that lecture theatres and classrooms can be fully protected without distracting students from their learning.

In a fire, the sprinkler head located in the immediate vicinity automatically descends from its recess in the ceiling, to dispense a fine water mist onto the blaze.

This operation occurs as intended in 94% of incidents, and is 99% effective at controlling the fire - preventing damage to surrounding areas and allowing for a safe and calm evacuation of students and staff alike.

Designing Optimal Sprinkler Systems for Universities

Base Fire Sprinklers use cutting-edge industry-specific computer-aided design (CAD) software to plan university sprinkler systems and to ensure they provide adequate coverage throughout the relevant parts of your premises.

We have over 20 years of experience, which we apply to every sprinkler system we design, combined with CAD packages like AutoCAD and FHC Canute to simulate your sprinkler system before we begin installation.

Our expertise allows us to optimise the number of sprinkler heads, the pipework and water tank size, all of which is done ahead of time, to enable fast installation on the day, without delay or disruption.

Testing and Maintenance of University Sprinkler Systems

All sprinkler systems should be tested routinely, and this is especially true of university sprinkler systems, which should be part of your planned maintenance schedule to identify any potential malfunction and replace any damaged parts.

Concealed sprinkler heads should not be obstructed by any ceiling decorations, and the disc that disguises the sprinkler head should not be overpainted, in order to ensure normal operation.

Testing should be carried out on at least an annual basis, and potentially more frequently for total peace of mind.

Base Fire Sprinklers can plan scheduled maintenance of university sprinkler systems in advance, and can work around semester dates and holidays to get the work done with minimal disruption.
